About staying in Demre: Demre is the home of ancient Myra and the historical Saint Nicholas β€” the bishop who inspired Santa Claus. Its compact area packs a famous church, dramatic rock-cut tombs and a Roman theatre, with access to the Kekova sunken city. Nearby you'll find Church of St. Nicholas, Myra Rock Tombs, Andriake / Myra Museum. Demre is about 145 km southwest of Antalya Airport (AYT), roughly a 2–2.5 hour drive along the coast; it is often combined with Kaş and Kekova. From our guides on the ground: This is an overnight trip, not a day tour β€” it's a long but rewarding drive inland, with a 4-star hotel stay included, so pack an overnight bag and comfortable shoes. The core is the underground cities and the open-air rock-cut valleys; the underground passages are narrow and cool, so a light layer helps. Optional sunrise balloon flights are arranged locally and paid separately β€” let us know in advance if you're interested. Best for travellers happy to trade a couple of long transfers for a genuine bucket-list landscape.

The valleys were beautiful in the late afternoon light. We came home with hundreds of photos.

James W.β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Cappadocia itself was magical, but the bus journey is definitely tiring. I appreciated that the guide kept the schedule clear and told us what to expect before each stop. Dinner at the hotel was slow, which is why I am giving four stars. The valleys, cave rooms, and sunrise views still made the trip very memorable.

Sarah T.β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

The cave hotel style was a nice surprise. Basic in places, but full of character.

Megan S.β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Dinner was simple, and the first day was long, but the scenery was completely different from the coast.

Michael G.β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

The bus ride is long and there is no way around it. Cappadocia itself was magical.

Sophie M.β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

We skipped the balloon flight and still had a beautiful morning watching them from the viewpoint. The rock formations are strange in the best way, and our guide explained the cave houses without making it feel like a lecture. I would only reccomend this to people who are okay with long travel days. If you are, it is absolutely worth doing once.
